2002 is the United Nations Year for Cultural Heritage. With the assistance of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, UNESCO convened an expert meeting on international intangible cultural heritage in Rio de Janeiro to express its recognition and appreciation of the Brazilian government’s efforts to protect the intangible cultural heritage. Intangible cultural heritage, also known as intangible cultural heritage, mainly refers to human beings verbally or by means of action, with national heritage and extensive, outstanding representative of the folk cultural heritage. It includes folklore, custom, language, music, dance, etiquette, celebration, cooking and traditional medicine. During its five hundred years of history, Brazil has formed its own unique and diverse culture originating from other countries as well as from Europe, Africa and other foreign countries. A large part of it is traditional folk culture. The Brazilian government attaches great importance to the protection of the intangible cultural heritage and conducts a great deal of identification and registration of the traditional folk culture. However, it is still not systematic or complete. 1997 National History and Art
