Use a rotatable loop antenna to increase the receive signal-to-noise ratio. An efficient antenna is an essential condition for successful long-range 160-meter band communications, especially on the west coast of the United States. My radio station is located in a small town west of Los Angeles where there is no room for Phased Array, long-range or other ground-mounted antennas. So my roof became the only place to set up an antenna, which also forced my antenna to be designed to be erected independent of the ground. Figure 1 shows an erected, 4.2 mx 8.8 m, rotatable rectangular loop antenna, ready to receive signals rare from Europe to the West Coast.
