Recent surveys have shown that child-bearing pedestrian accidents are the leading cause of death and disability in children. In 1982, there were 2,700 accident accidents among children aged 5 to 9 years in the United Kingdom more than four times those of adults aged 20-59 years. In 1983, a total number of 45 371 accidents involving children under the age of 14 were found in the United Kingdom, of which 23,900 were pedestrian accidents. In the United States, Serious pedestrian accidents in pre-school and school-age children far outnumber other accidents, especially in urban areas. Child pedestrian accidents have aroused great concern in the community.
