一些学术性论文中,有些作者喜欢在句中插入一、二句拉丁文或法文短语。如“etal”(拉丁文:“及其他人”或“在其它处”、“ibid”(拉丁文:“在同书或同章”)、“mutandis mutatis”(拉丁文:“加必要的变动”)等在英文文献中经常见到。它们在英文字典上往往查不到,增加阅读困难。在来稿中我们也发现有的译者把“外来语”当作“人名”或者没有译出来的情况。下面我们给出一些英文科技文献中出现的其它文种的短语与略写(注 L 者为拉丁文、F 者为法文、G 为德文):
