Objective To determine the contents of Cu, Zn, Fe, Ca and Mg in the hair of children aged 0 ~ 10 years, and to analyze the relationship between the content of trace elements in children and gender, age and nutrition status. Methods Pretreatment samples of infants and young children were collected and the contents of Cu, Zn, Fe, Ca and Mg were determined by flame atomic spectrophotometry. The results were statistically analyzed. Results There were significant differences in the contents of Zn and Ca between the two genotypes (P <0.05), while the other genotypes were not affected by gender (P> 0.05). The contents of 5 elements in infants from 0 to 4 months old were all at a high level. The contents of 5 elements in infants from 0 to 4 months of age decreased to the level of 5 months to 3 years old, and the decrease of Zn and Ca was the most obvious. With the further growth of age to 8 to 10 years old, its content slightly upward trend. Conclusion Infants and young children, especially in May to 3 years of age should strengthen the nutritional supplements of trace elements.
