In the ultimate sense, literature is derived from life and sublimated into life. The theoretical and practical significance of literature are all concretely unfolded in the humanistic thought. Only by truly recognizing the nature of the humanistic thought of literature can we understand the artistic and philosophical nature of literature. For Anglo-American literary theory, from the very beginning of its development, it is based on paying attention to the basic needs of human beings in real life. Concerns about human needs, desires and demands constitute the typical characteristics of humanistic thought in Anglo-American literature. In our opinion, it is necessary to understand its humanistic thought from the perspective of the origin and development of Anglo-American literature and humanistic thought, which is an important dimension for comprehensively understanding British and American literary thoughts.
