At present, the average oil recovery in the world is 34%. On this basis, how to further enhance oil recovery is a huge challenge for oilfield development. However, this challenge also presents a rare opportunity for EOR to increase recoverable reserves. This paper discusses this challenge based on the evaluation of the recovery factor, the setting of the EOR target, the existing EOR technology, and the application conditions. Technical aspects of EOR include gas flooding, thermal recovery, chemical flooding and their contribution to increasing crude oil production. Advances in EOR technology are mainly reflected in three areas: EOR in fractured carbonate oil fields, gas sources and smart fields. Shell Oil Company provided a complete set of application examples of monitoring technologies in the thermal recovery project of the Canadian Riviera oilfield, which has deepened the understanding and understanding of the mechanism of oil displacement and enhanced oil recovery. This article also provides examples of plugging and adjusting injection / production profiles with expandable synthetic rubber packers. EOR practice is a long-term systematic project. In order to be successful, it not only requires the technical staff to have dedicated dedication, but also has long-term commitment and guarantee in terms of capital, technology application, research and development, and sustainable development. . The content discussed in this article can be summarized in a strategic model in which synergy of upstream and downstream and multidisciplinary collaboration is considered as an important part.
