轮对是铁道车辆走行部的关键部件,它们的质量除与材质有直接联系外,还与轮对的加工、组装有密切关系。同样材质的轮、轴,由于加工粗糙、组装不好会使寿命显著缩短。仅1982年上半年,车辆运用部门就发生八起断轴事故(RW_(22)51016、RW_(22)51019车轴热切,C_(62)A747736、YZ_(21)23655、C_(50)55337轮座镶入部冷切和C_(50)943250、C(60)m742500、C_(50)940474车轴中央冷切)。除热切外,从断口情况看,脆性断面的面积最大的只占整个断面面积的30%,最小的仅22%,这说明轴中央和轮座部承受的名义应力是不高
