In electrochemical, the electrode potential is a very basic concept, but because of its lack of exact name, many students misunderstood it, and most physicochemical textbooks did not introduce it properly. For example, in “Physical Chemistry” edited by Nanjing University Physicochemical Research Group and so on, the next volume on page 486 states “... the electromotive force of any cell is an algebraic sum of the two electrode potentials, but so far we have not had any actual Method to determine the absolute value of a single electrode potential (also known as the half-cell potential) because the measured emf is always the sum of the two half-cell electrode potentials, but this difficulty does not affect the calculation of the emf since in fact we It is not necessary to know the absolute value of the electrode potential. Just select one of the electrodes as the standard, specify the electrode potential to zero, and then find the relative values of the other electrode potentials. ”The above argument is easy for readers
