The Oscar is a gold statue that was presented annually by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to outstanding performers in the film industry. The award began in 1929 but was not known as an Oscar in 1931. It is said that the college’s librarian Margaret Herik said that the statue reminded her of her uncle Oscar. A newspaper reporter happened to hear and he passed this information to the readers. The Oscar was named after this. The Pulitzer Prize was awarded once a year to those with outstanding performance in the fields of journalism, literature and music. The prize was named after Hungarian-American newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911) and was established on his wish.
