自1876年7月,第一条铁路——从上海开往吴淞的“吴淞铁路”——在中国大地上出现以来,经过一个多世纪的建设和发展,我国铁路的营业里程已经总计蜿蜒盘旋超过了90000公里。近几年,高铁事业的蓬勃发展又为这个“全球第三大铁路网”增添了新的徽章:全球最大规模的高速铁路网。伴随着如日中天的铁路发展,传统的机电控制方式已经不能够满足越来越高、越来越精确的铁路信号系统的安全要求了,建设基于网络通信方式的信号控制系统成为当务之急,在这一升级过程中,上海拔得了头筹。
