In 1989, France’s arms exports dropped by 50%, and the situation in 1990 is equally not optimistic. In the first half of 1990, French arms dealers failed to reach even a foreign country with a large-scale export agreement, which was announced by the National Defense Commission of Congress in early November. An official report submitted to the commission claimed that arms export loans were reduced to 20 billion French francs in 1989, equivalent to US$4 billion, which is 47% lower than in 1988. This dramatic decrease involves the export sales of various types of military equipment.
