棉铃虫H.armigera。是一种食性复杂、分布广泛、对农作物为害严重的世界性害虫。新疆遭受棉铃虫为害严重的主要作物有棉花、玉米、胡蔴(亚麻)、烟草、蕃茄等。在本自治区大面积植棉前,棉铃虫几乎是胡蔴生产上的毁灭性害虫,为此曾一度大力压缩胡蔴栽培面积而发展油菜,藉以减少损失;就以1956年南疆莎车、1957年北疆玛纳斯及其附近各县情况来说,胡麻被害损失产量平均在50％左右,在受害严重的田地竟颗粒无收。
Cotton bollworm H. armigera. It is a worldwide pest with complicated diet, wide distribution and serious damage to crops.
