After the Sino-Japanese War of Qing Dynasty failed, China and Japan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, and Taiwan was ceded to Japan. The people living in Taiwan are regarded as Japanese subjects. As a result, many Taiwanese residents have emigrated to the mainland and are known as “Taiwanese citizens” or “Japanese Taiwanese citizens.” The issue of “Taiwanese citizens” is a shame and insult imposed by the Japanese militarists on all Chinese, including the people of Taiwan. After Japan surrendered, “Taiwanese citizens” became historical names. During the period of Japanese occupation, “Taiwanese citizens” immigrated to Fujian in large numbers, which had a great impact on many aspects of Fujian society. During a specific historical period, they added special content to the relations between Fujian and Taiwan. This article tries to discuss the types, occupation and political conditions of “Taiwanese citizens” in Fujian during the period of Japanese occupation and occupation of Taiwan and the Japanese authorities’ attitudes towards them.
