OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of VEGF-936T / C gene polymorphism on colorectal cancer formation and colostomy fistula after operation. Methods Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to detect the VEGF936T / C genotype in colorectal cancer and normal controls. Results There was no difference in VEGF936T / C genotype or allele in colorectal cancer patients compared with control group. The colorectal cancer patients with colorectal anastomotic fistula after operation had lower VEGF936C / C genotype and C allele than those without colostomy fistula (P <0.05) ). Conclusion The VEGF936C / C genotype or 936C allele has no relation with the occurrence of colorectal cancer, but it suggests that the incidence of colostomy fistula is decreased.
