As an important theory of Paul Deman, the well-known deconstructive thinker in the United States, allegory theory has always been the subject of controversy in the field of literary theory. By focusing on the concept of allegory in his thoughts, the article first looks at the blindness in romanticism, studies the reason why Deman defends the allegory, and secondly studies the textual allegory caused by the historical extension of linguistic signs from the narrative level of the text. Third, from the perspective of reading, pay attention to the paradoxical meaning of “need ” for reading and study how Deman extends the theory of allegory from methodological to a mode of thinking.
