大珠母贝韧带在干燥状态时呈黑色,用水湿润后可呈现鲜艳的蓝色结构色.场发射扫描电子显微镜研究表明,大珠母贝韧带具层状结构,微层的厚度约35μm,主要由直径约78nm的文石纤维和蛋白质组成.同一微层中文石纤维具有高度一致的定向排列,因而具有二维光子晶体型结构特征.反射光谱测试及理论模拟表明该类结构在干燥状态时光子禁带位于紫外区,而湿润后其光子禁带位于蓝色范围,从而导致韧带的结构色.
