In recent decades, the global remittance flow has been steadily growing and increasingly becoming an important source of financial development in developing countries. Remittances become a stable part of household income and form the second largest cash flow in developing countries - after foreign direct investment (FDI) and before Overseas Development Assistance (ODA). In sub-Saharan Africa, remittances by migrant workers have become a major theme of financial development and financial services to the poor. This paper analyzes the remittances and their role of migrants in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Mali as the focus of study. The study concluded that remittances account for a significant proportion of national income and will continue to provide important support to individual families and communities and should encourage local remittances to promote infrastructure development and income generation.
