Cerebral malaria may be an acute diffuse encephalopathy caused by Plasmodium falciparum infection. Diagnosis is difficult with a mortality rate of up to 33%. Although extensive experimental studies have been conducted on this disease, no exact agreement has been reached on its pathophysiology and treatment. Toro et al recently reviewed and summarized the clinical and pathological features of 19 deaths from cerebral malaria and clarified the effects of neuro-allergic reactions in the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria and related issues of therapeutics. Nineteen dead cases of cerebral malaria were completely autopsy-tested and fully neuropathologically examined. Macroscopic examination of which 16 cases of brain edema (84%), vascular congestion, mainly in the white matter point
