Objective: To investigate the clinical features and significance of umbilical cord entanglement. Methods: The data of 420 maternal births (210 cases of umbilical wounds and 210 cases of control group) delivered in our hospital from 1994 to 1996 were analyzed retrospectively. Results (1) Fetal distress rate and neonatal asphyxia rate compared with the control group, the difference was significant. (2) The incidence of premature rupture of membranes, abnormal fetal position and abnormal fetal head convergence decreased significantly compared with the control group. (3) cesarean section and vaginal delivery rate compared with the control group, the difference was significant. (4) Variation and deceleration (VD) and baseline jump (mutation) in fetal heart rate monitor were significantly higher than those in control group. Conclusion: The umbilical cord entanglement affects the progress of labor, resulting in abnormal delivery, which can bring adverse outcomes to the infants.
