在《访美散记》中,丁玲从自己的已成之见出发,以本土文化为中心,将“自我”与“他者”相对立,着力批判了美国的制度文明和精神文明。为了凸现“美国文明”的弊端,一方面,她有意将浑融为一的“美国文明”作了拆解,以其物质文明的高度发达对之进行反衬;另一方面,则将中华精神文明作为理想的参照系对之进行比照。虽然丁玲对美国文明这一“他者”的批判不乏合理之处,但是,她从中所显示出来的以异证异、以异斥异的文化态度无疑是保守的、排外的,笼罩着浓厚的文化中心主义的阴影,表现出了狭隘的民族主义倾向。
