The safety and effectiveness of contraceptives have been questioned in recent decades and it remains uncertain whether hormonal contraceptives are associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). To this end, Professor Venkata Garikapaty from the Missouri Department of Health and Elderly Services and his team conducted a study to examine whether the different types of contraception used during pregnancy affect the risk of GDM in pregnant women. In that study, Garikapaty et al. Analyzed data collected by the Missouri Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) in 2007 and 2008 to determine whether the different types of contraception used prior to conception could have an impact on the risk of GDM in pregnant women. Use logistic regression to identify pregnant women who used hormonal contraception before pregnancy
