初慧曾获得1987、1989年亚洲青年女篮锦标赛冠军,1991年世界大学生运动会亚军。她虽投有郑海霞、李昕等人那样的辉煌,但,打球16年里,她靠自己的实力赢得了球迷的赞许。教练们夸她:球打得好,人品好,是篮球队的靓姐。 初慧1969年出生于辽宁省大连市。其父初乃起身高1.86米,是位司机。母亲邵玉凤身高1.68米,是服装设计师。初慧七八岁时在少年田径队练三项全能,成绩不错。十一岁那年,她身高长到1.78米,田径队教练建议她去打篮球。自此,她改行进了体校篮球班。
