《美国拼写课本》(American Spelling Book)是诺亚·韦伯斯特编写的一部适应美国建国初期基础教育和国情的教科书,在一定意义上也是一部重要的美国英语正字法著作。本文主要研究韦伯斯特的英语正字法及其理念,以《美国拼写课本》为主要的研究语料,结合不同时期语言学家们对正字法的不同认知,通过与其后来词典中正字法的对比,归纳出了韦伯斯特英语正字法的规则。从英语正字法改革的角度来看,韦伯斯特的正字法理念既创新求个性,又继承存保守,其正字法改革为美国政治社会、语言文化作出了突出的历史贡献,也为现行的美国英语拼写规范提供了指导和依据。
American Spelling Book, a textbook written by Noah Webster that adapts to the basic education and national conditions of the United States during the early years of the foundation of the United States, was also an important American orthography in a certain sense. This paper mainly studies Webster’s English orthography and his concept. Based on “American spelling textbook” as the main research corpus, combining with the different cognition of orthographic in different periods by linguists, , Summarizes the rules of Webster’s English orthography. From the point of view of the orthographic reform in English, Webster’s positive orthography concept not only innovates for personality but also inherits and preserves.
