目前,国内外金属板材切割的切割方式,最普遍的还是氧气切割。但是,氧气切割的速度一般只能达到0.5米/分左右,而现代的自动切割设备却可以提供高达6~7米/分的工作速度。由于氧-乙炔焰能力的限制妨碍了切割速度和生产效率的提高,各国都曾为此采取过一些措施来加以改善,如:采用多头切割、研制高速割咀、提高氧气压力、附加予热火焰等。其中除多头切割外,其它方式虽有所提高,但幅度都很有限。
