This article introduces about the seismic isolation (SI) and technology of the elastomeric isolator in Japan. At first, the performance of SI buildings during Tohoku District-Off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake 2011 is briefly summarized. Then, the principle of seismic isolation, and technology of elastomeric seismic protection isolators are introduced. Finally, the future direction of the technology is described focusing on the development of specifications for elastomeric isolators.
