The retrospective was named after the article “Important Not Meat” written by the artist and critic Qiu Zhijie in 2003. This article is also an article about “Another Importance Is Not Art” written by another critic Li Xianting in 1996, A response. In Li’s article, Li represented painters and sculptors (including Gu Dexin) who at the time were considered marginalized by both social and aesthetic points of view. Qiu Zhijie’s article defends the “post-sensualist” generation of artists, including Qiu, who appeared later in the 21st century. Some of the creative materials of these artists have aroused popular wrath and condemnation from higher levels due to the inclusion of various animal flesh.
