This article makes a totally new interpretation of Chinese and western myths from the perspective of comparative literature and reveals the differences between the tragic spirits contained therein. The interpretation focuses on four levels, namely, different cultural properties, different subjectivity, different ways of individual existence, and different values. The author believes that reinterpreting the myth today is of great significance to the future literary creation and the construction of literary theory as the “incompleteness” of human nature caused by technical rule and rational alienation.
