William Faulkner visited Europe in 1925. At that time, he was young and not famous. Many American writers have been to Europe to travel or stay, which is the prevailing atmosphere. Faulkner did not spend much time in Europe, but the visit impressed him. In his letter to his mother, Faulkner described his own perception. In subtle observation, he compared the French life with the native life, compared the two cultures, praised the merits of others, criticized Self shortcomings. Most of Faulkner’s literary works are more difficult to read because of the complex structure of his novels, frequent use of multi-angle narration and stream of consciousness, long sentences, non-standard grammar and so on. But his book was plain and friendly, allowing readers to understand the other side of Faulkner.
