The instrument consists of a base and a frame. The two parallel conductors are respectively fixed on the base and the frame, and the lower conductor on the base is fixed. The frame is supported on the knife socket of the base with the knife edge, so that the upper conductor fixed on the frame can rotate freely about the support axis. In order to balance the gravity of the movable conductor, the frame is equipped with an adjustable counterweight. The distance r between the upper conductor and the lower conductor can be adjusted by means of a counterweight. The distance can be read directly on the dial. The effective length L of the upper conductor ensures the required length when the instrument is assembled. The currents of the two parallel conductors can be in the same direction and can also be reversed, so that the mutual attraction can be demonstrated and the mutual repulsion can be demonstrated. For quantitative tests, reverse current is required and the two conductors are connected in series in the circuit.
