介词在其空间概念的基础上通过隐喻性映射发展了其多义性,产正了大量丰富多彩的隐喻含义。正是由于其多义性,介词一直是英语学习的重点和难点。本文试图从认知角度分析介词的词义扩展机制。尤其分析了空间介词用于表示时间,数量,状态这三个抽象概念。从认知角度分析介词词义扩展对英语教学,尤其是词汇教学有重要的指导意义。
The preposition develops its polysemy through metaphorical mapping on the basis of its spatial concept, producing a great deal of rich and colorful metaphorical meanings. It is precisely because of its ambiguity, prepositions have been the focus of English learning and difficulties. This paper tries to analyze the mechanism of word meaning expansion of prepositions from the cognitive perspective. In particular, the spatial prepositions are used to represent three abstractions of time, quantity and state. From the cognitive perspective, the expansion of prepositional semantic meaning has important guiding significance for English teaching, especially for vocabulary teaching.
