Introduction Gothic fiction creates an atmosphere of mystery and horror with such elements as violence, bloody death and other elements. Since its birth, the Gothic novel has shown an unusually strong vitality. Its charm stems from its characteristic of echoing human psychological needs. Human beings are a contradictory body. When confrontation between consciousness and unconsciousness, depression will cause spiritual anxiety and dissatisfaction. The mystery and terror in Gothic novels are exactly the externalities of anxiety and dissatisfaction. It presents both positive and negative feelings: order and chaos, reason and madness, familiarity and strangeness, civilization and desire.
