义和团运动是中国近代史上一次以农民主体的群众性自发的反帝爱国运动。它的爆发，一方面是广大群众在空前严重的民族危机下反抗帝国主义侵略的表现，另一方面也体现了在这一危机下的中国传统文化出现的危机及由此引起的中西文化冲突的因素。中国传统文化对义和团运动所产生的影响，比较明显地体现在其严重的盲目排外倾向和浓厚的封建迷信色彩等方面。
The Yihetuan Movement is a spontaneous anti-imperialist and patriotic movement based on the masses of peasants in modern Chinese history. On the one hand, it is the manifestation of the masses’ resistance to imperialist aggression under the unprecedented national crisis and on the other hand the crisis of the emergence of traditional Chinese culture under the crisis and the resulting cultural clashes between China and the West factor. The influence of traditional Chinese culture on the Yihetuan Movement has been more clearly manifested in its serious blind xenophobia and its strong feudal superstition.
