《围城》是创作于抗日战争时期与解放战争时期的作品,但并不是写的硝烟弥漫的世界,而是展现的当时二十世纪知识分子的生活世界。重要的艺术作品都有几层意思,从一个层面上说,《围城》是有自传色彩的,作者钱钟书是二十世纪很有影响力的知识分子,同主人公方鸿渐一样是出身书香门第,但不同的是钱钟书是位成就斐然的学者,并在中英文学方面都有很深的造诣。另一个层面是当时的知识分子因过度推崇西方文学与美学而带来了俄国。创作此作品的时期正值抗战时期,整个生活社会都是在动荡不安中,一度在沦陷区死里逃生。所以作品里广为流传着一段经典的比喻,把爱情比成了围城,城外的人想冲进去,城里的人却想逃出来,然而全篇的人物们在城里城外进进出出,不知疲惫。本文立足于描写主人公方鸿渐,从爱情里,事业里以及家庭里凸显出在时代背景下的一生,用精辟的语言和强大的讽刺写作手法将书中提到的主要人物关系贯穿于全文,整篇作品讲述的是二十世纪知识分子因为爱情这座围城交织在一起发生的故事,紧扣人生围城为线索而展开来。
