Objective To observe the effect of D-galactose-induced oxygen free radicals on the carotid artery elasticity in rats. Methods Rats were subcutaneously injected with D-galactose at 14 0mg / kg for 7 consecutive weeks, resulting in an animal model of elevated oxygen free radicals. The plasma MDA and SOD of the model and control animals were measured respectively. The compliance of carotid artery segments in rats was determined by the constant flow injection method designed by Liu Fulong. Results Compared with the control group, the content of MDA in the model group was significantly increased (P <0.01), and SOD decreased slightly. Vascular compliance measurements revealed an increase in elastic velocity and elastic area in the model group, with a significant difference in elastic area (P <.05), indicating decreased arterial compliance in the model animals. Conclusion D-galactose-induced increase of oxygen free radical in rats results in impaired carotid artery elasticity and decreased compliance.
