The ancients’ understanding of lacquer has been incorporated into all aspects of their lives through its many practical functions, such as pigment cementing and writing and painting, gluing, medicinal use, shaping and preserving decoration. Behind this is rich cultural connotations: the immortality of lacquer and noble and feminine concepts, the change and irreversible grasp, and the pragmatism’s pursuit of auspicious appeal. The constant love of paint for thousands of years stems from the earlier worship of jade. The paint culture is produced in the forest and farming culture, rooted in rice culture.
