Objective To investigate the feasibility and clinical significance of transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) in hearing screening of neonatal asphyxia. Methods Totally 164 neonates with asphyxia and 60 healthy newborns hospitalized in intensive care unit were examined by TEELE with CELESTA503 otoacoustic emission apparatus and were reviewed before discharge and 3 months after discharge. Results The first passage of asphyxia neonatal TEOAE was 6274%, the healthy neonatal TEOAE passage rate was 95%, the two groups were statistically significant, the difference was significant (P <001). The second passage of asphyxia neonatal TEOAE was 8963%, the third passage of neonatal TEOAE as 9412%. CONCLUSION: TEOAE is a fast and feasible method for high-risk neonatal hearing screening. The passing rate of neonatal test TEOAE is related to the degree of asphyxia. The effect of asphyxia on cochlear function is reversible.
