新时期以来,电影、电视的空前发展,给戏剧带来很大的冲击,使戏剧艺术出现寂寞、萧索、凋敝状态。徐晓钟清醒地认识到,要想戏剧发展,必须唤醒戏剧本性的复归。恢复舞台假定性在中国现代戏剧中的地位,要求舞台与观众席有更炽热的交流与感应,重视活人的精湛表演,充分发挥戏剧的综合性特征,创造出别的艺术不能替代的戏剧舞台艺术。
