This paper studies the determination of formic acid, acetic acid, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in the atmosphere by ion chromatography. In two inline absorption bottles, 50 ml of distilled water was charged as an absorbent to collect atmospheric gases. With this sampling system, the gas collection efficiency was almost 100% measured on site at a flow rate of 5 L / min (4 hours). Formic acid and acetic acid were collected with distilled water and directly determined by ion chromatography. 0.005 M Na_2B_4O_7 is the best eluent for ion chromatographic analysis of formate and acetate ions and gives good resolution with full analysis time within 8 minutes.
