In the past two decades, cell fusion has become a major cell engineering technology. The search for more desirable inducers and induction methods has been one of the central issues in cell fusion studies. In recent years, it has been demonstrated that electric field induced methods can be used to fuse plant cells and animal cells that are different from each other and produce hybrid cells with new qualities and viability. In 1980 West U.Zimmerman first reported a new technique of electric field-induced cell fusion.
