Under the control of the electrode potential, ordered nanostructures are formed at the solid-liquid interface with atoms, ions and organic molecules. Electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy can be used to observe the formation of nanostructures and the structural transitions and molecular phase changes under potential control. These nanostructures have important applications in the field of the future manufacture of nanoelectronic devices
