Metal vapor lasers use He, Ne, N_2, and Ar as buffer gases, and the DC discharge characteristics at high power levels are measured for the first time. Experiments show that He gas is the best buffer gas for DC preheating. With a He pressure of 200 mmHg and a discharge current of 1 A, more than 5 kW of electric power is injected into the plasma tube. The plasma tube temperature reached a high temperature of 1400 ° C in less than 1 h.
