Gas industry and equipment companies have developed many different ways to ensure the safety of gas transmission. This article describes gas cabinets, special source systems with decontamination mechanisms, and monitoring equipment (including sirens, valve shutoffs, flow restrictors, and gas detectors). In order to correctly recognize the dangers associated with gas maintenance while avoiding reckless cross-over (for example, the oxidizer system is misused for combustibles), it is equally important for the cylinders and equipment to be properly labeled. This article focuses on gas safety equipment that is part of a site-wide gas transmission system. Relevant materials, selection criteria, basic precautions, and other issues are discussed below in the section on safety and gas purification.
