OBJECTIVE: To understand the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in adults aged 20-45 years in a city in Guiyang and to compare the diagnostic results of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the Global Consensus (JIS) Methods: A stratified cluster sampling method was used to survey 796 people (341 males and 455 females) aged 20 to 45 years old in a city of Guiyang City. The questionnaires, physical examinations and related metabolic indexes were conducted. IDF and JIS Criteria to determine the prevalence of MS and its components in different sexes young people, observing the consistency of the prevalence of MS among the two sexes. Results: The crude prevalence rate of IDF in this age group was 22.2% (24.0% for males and 19.3% for females), no difference between men and women (χ2 = 2.57, P> 0.05) The prevalence rate was 31.3% (41.6% for males and 23.5% for females), higher in males than in females (χ2 = 29.791, P <0.05); IDF was 30.5% for central obesity and 38.4% for central obesity; The crude prevalence of elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL cholesterol, elevated blood pressure and fasting plasma glucose were 31.3%, 55.0%, 18.3% and 46.4%, respectively. Both of these criteria were consistent with the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome in women Sex better (K = 0.876), general population and men’s consistency (K values were 0.615 and 0.747 respectively). Conclusion: Both IDF and JIS diagnostic criteria show that the prevalence of MS among young urban MSCs is high, and the consistency of the two methods in diagnosing female MS is better.
