在单件、小批量生产中,常采用装有高速钢刀具的弹簧刀杆(图1),车削各种螺纹。为了提高切削效率,就要在刀头上磨出前角γ。这种刀具经过几次刃磨后,刀头就塌下去,必须把刀头磨去一大截后重新刃磨刀具前角。这样,高速钢刀具的材料浪费较大,使用又不方便。现改用图2所示的形式,由于装刀槽带有角度,只要把刀具装在刀槽中,就自然形成前角γ,当刀具磨损后,修磨刀头两侧的副后角就行了。这样一来,刃磨刀具简单方便,既节约了刀具材料,又延长刀具的使用寿命。
