The commune movement was an important event in the history of medieval French cities and was once regarded as a typical case of the bourgeois revolution. The narrative model of commune movement changed greatly in the 19th century. At that time, historians incorporated the narrative of historical events into the framework of bourgeois revolution’s interpretation, emphasizing the nature and significance of its revolution and highlighting the role of the third level. The explanation and change of the incident and its conversion from the riot to the revolution are precisely determined by the influence of the trend of thoughts and the historical writing at that time. By analyzing this pedigree, we can see the interplay between the production of specific historical knowledge and the real factors behind it.
