Just because “Slaughterhouse Five” is the most influential one in American postmodernist novels, the quality of translation directly affects the Chinese readers’ overall perception of postmodernist novels and their deep understanding of postmodernist ways of thinking. This paper examines some major shortcomings (including missing translations) in the translation of “Slaughterhouse # 5” from the perspective of text translation and points out that the root cause lies in the lack of a true understanding of the postmodernist philosophy; or even knowing something, This understanding has not been consistent, meticulous implementation into the translation process. The lack of translation accumulated to a certain amount, will eventually damage the core value of the original.
