“I am still grateful to Nankai High School for giving me the basic knowledge of enlightenment so that I may seek new knowledge and gain new knowledge.” This is what our beloved Premier Zhou Enlai said when he welcomed foreign guests in Tianjin in 1957 . He added: “I was a student who had been educated in secondary education in Tianjin 40 years ago.” Premier Chou’s words expressed his deep memory of the remarkable years of his high school days. From August 1913 to June 1917, Comrade Zhou Enlai was a middle school age between the ages of 15 and 19. At that time, he studied at Tianjin Nankai School (middle school) and spent four years until he graduated from high school. Later, he went to Japan for a year and a half and went back to his alma mater in Tianjin in April 1919. Since then, he took part in the May Fourth Movement and went to work-study in France until early November 1920.
