“Daisy Miller” is one of the representative works of the American realistic writer Henry James, whose work is entitled “International Theme” which the author is good at. As a representative of the American modern people, Daisy Miller ignores the hierarchy and moral norms of the traditional European society, that is, the “inner groups”, resulting in the “inner group” in order to safeguard its social values against the modern society, “The invaders were violently suppressed, and finally ended in the failure of Daisy. The works reflect that the traditional society stratified by the strict hierarchy is incompatible with the modern society stratified by the functional differentiation. Through analysis, it is not only the conflict between simple European culture and American culture that ”International Theme " is to be exhibited. Its deep meaning is the dispute between ancient and modern times, that is, the dispute between tradition and modernity.
