Objective To investigate the effect of shallow suction on the oxygen saturation of neonates with mechanical ventilation. Methods Twenty-two neonates undergoing mechanical ventilation were enrolled in our undergraduate department from January 2014 to October 2015. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. In the control group, 11 cases were given conventional suctioning. In the observation group, 11 cases were given shallow suctioning. Compared with 2 Group neonatal oxygen saturation. Results The neonatal sputum oxygen saturation of control group was 90.7 ± 2.7. The oxygen saturation of neonatal sputum before the observation group was 90.4 ± 2.5. There was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05) The neonatal oxygen saturation of the control group was 87.9 ± 5.9, the oxygen saturation of the observation group was 92.8 ± 3.8, the difference was statistically significant between the two groups (P <0.05); 2 min after the end of sputum suction, The saturation was 93.1 ± 3.2. The oxygen saturation in the observation group was 98.3 ± 2.7. There was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05). Conclusion Suction sputum can significantly improve neonatal oxygen saturation.
